Penn State’s 2015 Recruiting Class Ranked No. 2 In America

A few weeks ago, Penn State’s 2015 recruiting class was ranked the fourth/fifth best class in America, something that is incredible considering the school is still under NCAA sanctions and has a brand new coaching staff.

However, that apparently wasn’t good enough for James Franklin. After adding WR Brandon Polk, OG Steven Gonzalez, and LB Josh Barajas, Penn State’s 2015 recruiting class has jumped to the No. 2 class in America on the three major scouting services that are ranking classes this early in the season: Scout, Rivals, and 24/7 Sports.

The Nittany Lions accomplished this by recruiting early and often, along with getting a ton of four-star recruits. Penn State is ranked so high in each of the sites composite ratings. Basically, the sites give the players a grade on a scale of 100, adds all of them up, and ranks classes based on that.

Penn State has achieved such a high composite ranking by coming out and blitzing everyone else in recruiting. Franklin’s staff has pulled in 11 recruits, which is the most in America. Of course, a high ranking relies on a mix of quantity and quality, and Penn State has plenty of quality, as eight of the team’s commits are four-star recruits.

While this kind of recruiting success in Happy Valley hasn’t been seen since Penn State’s otherworldly 2005 class, there’s still a long way to go until National Signing Day 2015. This could either be a good thing or a bad thing, but after reading what Black Shoe Diaries’ Nick Polak has to say after talking to some recruits, there is reason to believe that this class will only get better.
