UPUA Executive Candidates In High Spirits On Election Day

With all three UPUA presidential candidates making their final campaign pushes on Election Day, morale is high within the executive tickets’ camps in what has been a closely contested race.

Anand Ganjam, Melissa McCleery, and Meeten Doshi are all on campus this afternoon, as they will likely use every moment leading up to the 10 p.m. polling deadline to make their case to lead the student body in the coming year.

“We’re working hard, continuing to campaign all around campus to spread the word about UPUA and show students that the Ganjam/McDonald ticket is the best ticket with the most qualified people running,” said Grant Brown, campaign manger for Ganjam, UPUA Director of Communications, and OS editor. “We’ll continue to work tirelessly until the polls close, and are encouraged by the support we’ve seen thus far.”
We heard similar sentiments when reaching out to other candidates in the race. Doshi, the president of the Blue & White Society and the election’s dark horse as a UPUA outsider, echoed Brown’s statement when asked about Election Day morale.
“Morale is high and we have seen so much support from various people,” Doshi said. “It’s humbling to see so many people supporting our platform and candidacy and we are going to continue our work throughout the day.”

The McCleery ticket has had troops out in full force on campus this afternoon. While Ganjam has the most endorsements in the race, McCleery and running mate Tim Rinehart definitely have a strong support system, too.

“We’re really happy. We have a lot of good friends and strong supporters who have been helping us out,” McCleery said. “It’s been really great to have a great a support system because it’s exhausting and takes a lot of you. We have a lot of people stationed at places around campus and we tried to hit every big part of campus where a lot of students will be passing through.”
