Male Student Accused of Attacking 18-Year-Old Female

A Penn State student is accused of attacking an 18-year-old female, causing her to require reconstructive surgery and brain surgery.

Sean Urbain, 20, is bound for trial on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment following his preliminary hearing Wednesday. He was unable to post bail of $100,000, so he was incarcerated, according to the Centre Daily Times.

The victim was emotional while testifying at a hearing presided over by Magisterial District Judge Leslie Dutchcot about the Feb. 1 incident in which she was attacked on a State College street. She had been walking to her car after leaving a party with two friends when Urbain and another man tried to convince them to go to a party at their fraternity house, Pi Kappa Phi.

The situation quickly escalated when the girls declined the invitation. Urbain grew hostile and argued with one of the victim’s friends. The victim then sent one of her friends to the car with her keys while she helped to settle the dispute.

Instead, Urbain proceeded to choke and punch the victim.

“Everything was too close and it scared me,” she testified. “The next thing I know, I was getting strangled. I was on the ground and he had both hands around my throat.”

Urbain’s friend had left. The victim’s friend was hitting Urbain with her shoe to get him to release her while the victim clawed at his hands around her throat. He let go with his right hand and punched the victim in the face. He then ran off while the victim’s friend chased him down.

“I just sat there, alone, bleeding,” she testified.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where doctors worked on her broken nose and lacerated face. She had reconstructive surgery to repair the damages. She still requires brain surgery to correct damaged nerves from the attack that left her unable to see out of her right eye. Her left eye also causes her some vision problems.

The assistant district attorney requested the high bail due to the seriousness of the crime and because Urbain fled the scene after the incident. Dutchcot agreed, calling the attack “uncontrolled, rash, wild, and baseless.”
