Pilato Adds Third Paterno, Others to Mural

Heister street now has three — count ’em, three — Joe Paternos on its respective murals. Earlier this month, artist Michael Pilato unveiled the third painted JoePa (above) on the Deli side of the street.

“This, of course, is for all who loved Joe Paterno,” Pilato wrote. “We did it in the name of Inspiration Way — a great group full of love. More will be added to this over time.”

The illustration shows Paterno in a sort of badass, arms crossed Godfather pose, leather jacket, sunglasses, and all. The background of a fruit stand takes away from Paterno’s seriousness, but that will soon change. Pilato plans to paint some of Paterno’s greatest players behind him in the section — and he’s looking for suggestions (feel free to leave them in comments).

The Deli Paterno joins the main Paterno and the Paterno-on-a-bench already on the mural.

That’s not all that’s changing on the Inspiration Mural. Pilato published sketches earlier this month of upcoming additions, including soon-to-be-former equipment manager Brad “Spider Caldwell, former coaches Tom Bradley and Larry Johnson, trustee Peter Khoury, Spud Marshall and Christian Baum of The New Leaf Initiative, and deceased THON child Laney Brown, among others. These additions will be made in the coming weeks.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
