‘Catch Me If You Can’ Comes To Schwab Auditorium

You should catch this, if you can: The Penn State Thespians will perform the beloved musical “Catch Me If You Can” this Thursday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 11 at Schwab Auditorium.

Based on the book and popular movie of the same name, “Catch Me If You Can” chronicles the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., a famous conman. By the time he was 21, Abagnale posed as a Pan Am pilot, a doctor, and a prosecutor for the state of Louisiana. He had also cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks. After his capture, Abagnale served less than five years in prison before he began working for the FBI.

The musical rendition of Abagnale’s tale features jazzy songs, flashy airline stewardesses, and high-jinxing FBI agents. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2011 and received four Tony nominations that year.

The Penn State Thespians’ production of “Catch Me If You Can” began the first week of classes. From there, the cast began a rigorous rehearsal schedule to get the show ready for this upcoming weekend.

“We’re a really cohesive cast, and everyone works well together,” said Adam Hunter, who plays Frank Abagnale Jr. “There’s been a family value since day one.”

“There’s a real wow factor to the show. The choreography is excellent, the characters are deep, and the musical is phenomenal. The audience will not be disappointed.”

There will be nightly performances of the Thespians’ first production of the year at 7:30 p.m. and a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday. The Thursday performance will feature a talk-back at the end of the show, where the audience members can ask the cast and production staff questions and take photos. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $4.98 for students with a Penn State ID. They are available at the door, on the ground floor of the HUB, and online.
