Blue Band Named Country’s Best Marching Band in USA Today Poll

Blue Band

The Blue Bandreceiving an impressive 16 percent of the total vote, was voted the country’s best college marching band in the USA Today College Football Fan Index Poll.

“Penn State’s marchers faced stiff competition in the poll this week, but the Blue Band prevailed, topping more famous outfits like Ohio State and USC,” according to the paper. “Fight on, State!”

The index is measured on fans’ social activity, including shared photos and videos. Results from weekly polls asking fans which school is the best in a certain college football area are also considered. Those areas include best uniforms, best fight songs, best stadiums, and best mascots.

“The Fan Index is designed to actually quantify the passion each school’s fanbase generates beyond the games themselves, as well as to determine which traditions and fan experiences resonate the most with fans around the country,” said Dave Morgan, President of USA TODAY Sports Media Group.

The Nittany Lions are currently ranked tenth overall in the contest, with 207,125 mentions on Twitter alone.

Best of all? In this week’s poll, the Blue Band beat the Buckeyes! Ohio State’s marching band came in second with a reputable 14 percent of the vote.
