Four-Star Quarterback Jake Zembiec Commits To Penn State

Four-star quarterback prospect Jake Zembiec has committed to Penn State over Michigan State, he announced about an hour prior to kickoff Saturday.

Zembiec, a 6-foot-3, 205 pound prospect from the Aquinas Institute in Rochester, New York, is one of the top young signal callers in the nation, and is one of James Franklin’s top recruits for the Class of 2016.

He brings plenty of talent to the table. Known for his poise in the pocket and cannon arm, Zembiec was an integral part of Aquinas’ state championship run in 2013. Zembiec is the top-ranked player in New York State, and the 15th-ranked pocket passing quarterback in the nation, according to ESPN.

Zembiec had offers from over 20 schools, including Florida State, Notre Dame, and Rutgers, and narrowed his choices down to Penn State and Michigan State in November before ultimately choosing the Nittany Lions.

His junior season in 2014 was supposed to be special but it soon took a disastrous turn after he broke his non-throwing wrist early on in the season. After the injury healed, it seemed as though his season was back on track, until the team’s playoff matchup against rival Pittsford. Aquinas won the game, but Zembiec was deemed ineligible due to state injury rules, and the Lil’ Irish were forced to forfeit the game, embroiling the community in controversy.

With Zembiec’s arrival, the quarterback position seems to be in good hands for the near future, between Christian Hackenberg, Michael O’Connor, and Zembiec. Penn State is now ranked No. 14 in the 2016 recruiting class, according to 247sports.
