James Franklin is having a good Saturday afternoon.

Four-star defensive back Lavert Hill announced his commitment to Penn State after visiting campus this weekend, joining an already loaded class of 2016. Several minutes earlier, safety John Petrishen tweeted his commitment.

The news was first reported by Rivals’ Adam Friedman.

Hill, a 5-foot-11, 170 pound defensive back gives Penn State another versatile athlete to add to its secondary. Yahoo sports ranked the Detroit, MI native as the No. 19 cornerback in the nation, as well as the sixth best prospect in the state of Michigan.

The talented defensive back fielded offers from numerous powerhouse programs, including Miami, Ohio State, and Tennessee. Michigan and Illinois were also in play, but it seems as though the enchanting atmosphere of Happy Valley was enough to seal the deal for Hill.

Hill’s commitment gives Penn State a star-studded Class of 2016. Hill joins quarterback Jake Zembiec, running back Miles Sanders, and five-star defensive end Shane Simmons in Franklin’s 2016 recruiting class.

Hill becomes a key member of Penn State’s young secondary, where he will join John Reid, Garrett Taylor, and Marcus Allen to form what could be a dynamic secondary for years to come. Note that Hill is also quite the speedster; he’s recorded times as low as 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, as confirmed by his Hudl page.
