Pennsylvania General Assembly To Recognize THON

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives plans to recognize THON tomorrow in Harrisburg, according to a media release. A similar resolution is anticipated immediately after in the State Senate.

State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, the House resolution’s primary sponsor, and State Sen. Jake Corman have led efforts to recognize the more than 15,000 Penn State students who volunteer for the cause.

The House passed Resolution 119, which will: “Congratulate The Pennsylvania State University IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon for raising more than $13 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital to help fight pediatric cancer.”

Five members of THON’s executive committee were invited to represent Penn State students on the House floor, according to the release. Executive Director Megan Renaut, Technology Director Cory Gehr, Communications Director Corbin Reno, and Finance Director Katie Mailey are all expected to be in attendance.

The resolution stated: “THON has inspired similar events and organizations across the United States, including at high schools and institutions of higher education and continues to encourage students throughout the nation to volunteer and stay involved in great charitable causes in their communities.”
