Vicki Fong To Speak As Part Of Asian Heritage Celebration

A veteran communications strategist, writer, and editor with a 30-year career at Penn State will give a talk called “Not Fresh Off the Boat: Living Multiculturally” on Thursday, March 26, at 6 p.m. The speech is part of Asian-American Heritage Month activities in the College of Communications at Penn State. Vicki Fong, communications manager for the College of the Liberal Arts, will discuss her experiences with media, public relations, and higher education industries. In addition, she will share her personal experiences as an Asian American professional over the past three decades.

A 1981 Penn State graduate in journalism, Fong manages alumni and development communications and strategic publicity for the college. Prior to this position, she achieved a 24-year career in national media relations, research communications, and crisis communications in the Department of Public Information at Penn State. She had been a member of the Big Ten News Directors and the Association of Opinion Page Editors.

Other activities include volunteer work with university committees such as the Commission on Racial/Ethnic Diversity and community organizations including the Women of Color, State College Redevelopment Authority, and the State College Community Land Trust.

Heritage Month activities are sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Communications.
