Final UPUA Executive Debate To Focus On Student Life

UPUA’s four executive tickets will debate tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Freeman Auditorium. The debate will be co-hosted by Onward State and the Daily Collegian. In the last debate before election night, Onward State Managing Editor Zach Berger and Collegian Editor-in-Chief Sam Janesch will moderate a series of questions primarily focused on issues impacting student life.

Candidates Emily McDonald, Shannon Rafferty, Ryan Belz, Hamsa Fayed, and their respective running mates will answer questions on topics including tuition, sexual assault, and mental health among others. The first debate for the 2015 election was generally tame, but with the election so close and many organizational endorsements announced, expect to see more fire tonight.

The final debate is essential for candidates hoping to sway undecided voters. When you consider the Executive’s role with the Board of Trustees, Penn State administration, and of course, the student body, the debates can be a strong indicator of a candidate’s qualifications.

If you are unable to attend the debate, Onward State will have a full recap of the event on Tuesday.
