LionShoppers Will Do Your Grocery Shopping For You

Grocery shopping just got a whole lot easier.

A group of four students in the Smeal College of Business have created a service called LionShoppers that will deliver groceries to your door, so you can spend less time in the store and more time at the Phyrst studying. The four students, Komal Handa, Bill Smith, Theo Moskala, and Julia D’Amico, said they were inspired to create the company to fill a need that they believe exists in State College, especially since students are super busy and often don’t have access to a car.

“The delivery service economy is growing, and this is something that is so useful, but isn’t available yet in State College,” the four students wrote in an email. “We really are trying to revolutionize the way State College does groceries.”

To utilize the service, users go to LionShoppers’ website and use the “Ideas” tab to start creating a grocery list. The service charges by the number of items you order — for example, if you order up to 10 items it costs $8, 11 to 16 items costs $15, and so on. If you order multiples of the same item (like four oranges), it will only charge you for one item. The full list of fees is available on the website.

After you have put together your list, you can order via an online form, email, or texting (814)-205-6608.

After your order is received, someone will contact you to arrange a delivery time in which your groceries are delivered right to your door. LionShoppers will also utilize whatever store is best for you based on your preferences, or what store has the best deals for the items on your list. If you order before noon, they will be able to deliver to you that day by 10:30 p.m. LionShoppers accepts payment via credit or debit card for a 2.75 percent processing fee, cash, or through Venmo.

The service is currently targeted toward students on campus and downtown, but the company isn’t opposed to expanding its service to other locations in the future. So far, LionShoppers has been receiving orders and positive feedback from those who have had their groceries delivered to them.

“It’s meant to be easy and streamlined for the customer,” the students wrote. “We do all the hard work for you and the customer can order at anytime from anywhere.”

The band finished its set at the Phyrst last semester and “Build Me Up Buttercup” came on over the speakers. Most people continued with their conversations as usual, but I turned and glanced at at the dance floor. There were my parents, dancing in each other’s arms to the song that they used to dance to years ago at the Gaff.
