Penn State Grad Student Cecil Blutcher Debuts First Music Video

He’s performed for more than 10,000 spectators at THON, is currently pursuing his master’s degree in theatre at Penn State, and now he’s releasing his very first music video. Cecil Blutcher is a man of many talents, and Happy Valley is simply his stage.

Born in Chicago, Blutcher first attended Bradley University before continuing his graduate studies at Penn State, focusing on performance arts at both locations. Since his time at Penn State, Blutcher has become engrained with the music scene.

Many may remember Blutcher gracing the huge stage of THON, and some might have seen his performance at the THAW festival. He’ll also be part of next week’s SOMA Arts Crawl.

A man of many interests, Blutcher is quick to dispel the notions of “boundaries” within both his professional and personal lives. He’s had many passions, from athletics to forensics competitions to the school choir — according to his website, Blutcher believes that labels and categorizations “cause the world to limit you and your creativity.”

Because of this, Blutcher’s music is purposely difficult to classify, falling somewhere in the midst of beat poetry, rap, and smooth hip-hop. Blutcher aims to keep creative expression open and limitless; his lyrics are honest and unfiltered, his music deeply felt and unrestrained.

We at Onward State are excited to premiere his first music video, for his song “I’m Fine,” to all the music lovers and supporters of Penn State:

And that’s not all: Apparently, Blutcher is already heavily involved with his second music video, which is very Penn State-focused. We’re excited to see what will come next.

If you’d like to hear more from Blutcher, both “I’m Fine” and his other single, “Good Morning Amen,” are available for free download from his SoundCloud page. Here’s “Good Morning Amen.”
