Maryland Wrestler Charged In Beaver Hill Assault

State College Police charged the suspect who was caught on video after assaulting, threatening, and attempting to remove a female from her apartment. The assault, which occurred in Beaver Hill Apartments, was reported to State College police on April 12.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Justin Alexander from the University of Maryland, according to a press release from State College Police. Alexander was charged with unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, false imprisonment, tampering with fire apparatus, harassment, and criminal mischief.

According to the Centre Daily Times, Alexander contacted police about turning himself in earlier this week.

Alexander is a member of the University of Maryland wrestling team, according to its website. Maryland wrestling Media Relations Assistant Taylor Smyth confirmed to the Centre Daily Times that Alexander is still a member of the team, but declined to comment further.

When the assault was reported, the victim told police a college-aged white male approached her outside of her apartment, asking for her assistance. The female began speaking with him and eventually the male assaulted and threatened her, attempting to remove her from the apartment building. Before the suspect could remove the victim from the building, she recognized some people she knew and was able to break free.

Alexander was arraigned and release on $10,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29.
