Annual Blue And White Film Festival To Take Over State Theatre

The Blue and White Film Festival, Penn State’s largest annual showcase of student work, will take over the State Theatre this Saturday, April 25. The festival is organized by Student Film Organization and will showcase short films made by students.

“The Blue and White Film Festival is basically a student festival, but the films are curated by faculty and other filmmakers in town,” said Kandaci Ausar, a film student whose short film will be shown in the festival. “They decide which films get in.”

Student films were chosen from a pool of submissions in early April. This year, the selection was narrowed down to the best 20 films submitted. Those films showing in the festival fall under three main categories — documentary, narrative, and experimental.

“Interestingly, you don’t have to be a film major,” Ausar said. “We get a lot of journalism majors for documentaries especially.”

A DVD compilation of all the student films will be available for purchase following the event. Tickets are free for students and $6 for the general public. They can be purchased on the State Theatre Website. The event takes begins at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre.
