Penn State-Ohio State Slated For Primetime Nationally Televised Kickoff

Penn State’s traveling back to the Horseshoe for another primetime nationally televised tilt. The Nittany Lions will meet Ohio State on Oct. 17 at 8:00 p.m. on either ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2, the network announced today. It’s the 23rd year in a row the two teams will battle on an ESPN network.

Penn State will hope to avenge the last time it traveled to Columbus, a 63-14 blowout at the hands of the Buckeyes in 2013. Last season, this time at home, the Lions made a triumphant comeback against the Buckeyes, only to fall in overtime by a touchdown to the eventual national champions. In 2012, the Lions again hosted Buckeyes, and lost again, 35-23. The last time Penn State defeated Ohio State came on the opponent’s turf, a 20-14 victory on Nov. 19, 2011, the first game Penn State won without Joe Paterno. The Buckeyes didn’t score in the second half of the game.

This is the second official primetime game on Penn State’s 2015 schedule. Ten days ago, the Big Ten announced that the Lions Sept. 19 tilt against Rutgers was pegged for a primetime kick, though no official time has been released. That game will be aired on the Big Ten network.

The matchup will be Penn State’s first true challenge of the season, and only its second road game to that point. If the Nittany Lions can survive Rutgers and Indiana at home, they could very well enter the Horseshoe 6-0.
