Four-Star 2016 Forward Joe Hampton Recommits To Penn State

Guess who’s back. I’ll give you a hint: it’s not Shady.

Class of 2016 forward Joe Hampton — who decommited rom Pat Chambers’ program back in March — announced his recommitment to Penn State today via Twitter.

While his reasons for the renouncement of his verbal commitment remain unknown, Penn State’s brutal performance in conference play may have deterred him from sticking with the program. In a sense, it’s tough to blame the kid. Hampton held offers from DePaul, Xavier, and Virginia Tech — three schools boasting much more prominent basketball programs than Penn State. Hampton may have envisioned himself having more success in one of the aforementioned programs at one time, but that’s all history now.

Hampton will rejoin Oak Hill teammate Josh Reaves, who will arrive on campus for the 2015 season, injecting instant chemistry into Penn State’s lineup given the two players’ familiarity with one another. The 6-foot-7 forward gives the Nittany Lions a size boost down low, helping to round out the team’s front court. This will be especially important in 2016, given the departure of 7-footer Jordan Dickerson after next season.

Penn State’s recruiting class rankings will see an increase as well with the news of Hampton’s recommitment, which bodes well for Chambers in his future recruiting endeavors.

While there might have been a sense of resentment around the Penn State basketball community, that’s all just water under the bridge now. Hampton is back on board, and that’s all that matters. Welcome back home, Joe.
