UConn Basketball Transfer Terrence Samuel Commits To Penn State

Less than a month after talented guard and big personality Geno Thorpe decided to transfer out of State College, Pat Chambers and his coaching staff picked up a commitment from another guard to potentially take his place. Former UConn point guard Terrence Samuel visited and committed to Penn State today, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Samuel, who has two years of eligibility left, played in every game for the Huskies last year and started in eight. The former three-star prospect averaged 3.6 points per game, but struggled shooting the ball at times, shooting only .387 his sophomore year, and going 0-17 from beyond the arc. However, Samuel was know more for his defensive play, and was thought of as a key player off the bench when the Huskies won the National Championship in Samuel’s freshman year. The defense of Geno Thorpe is one thing the Nittany Lions will miss the most, so adding a guard with a defensive focus will hopefully help fill that void.

Due to transfer eligibility rules, Samuel will have to sit out a year before joining the team, but it will not affect the two years he has left to play. Penn State has had mixed results from their most recent transfers, in John Johnson, who was suspended indefinitely earlier this year, and Jordan Dickerson, who has proved to be a defensive force beneath the basket.
