Excessive Pigeon Poop Closes Nittany Parking Deck

It’s been a crappy week for Penn State.

On Monday, part of the Schwab Auditorium balcony collapsed, sending one person to the hospital. On Tuesday, Hammond caught fire, causing it to close, and on Wednesday, the Nittany Parking Deck was also closed… due to an excessive amount of pigeon poop.

According to the Centre Daily Timesthere is no timeline as to when the parking deck will re-open. Susan Bedsworth, of the Office of Physical Plant, explained to the CDT the lot will remained closed for an unknown period of time. “I imagine it will be closed until it’s cleaned,” was her simple estimation.

It’s just the latest installment in “Penn State vs. The Birds.” In the past, Penn State has used fogging, pyrotechnics, and a “laser recon team” to get rid of the crows on campus. This time around, the university hired the cleaning company Servpro to clean up the droppings over the weekend. Pest management company Orkin was also hired to prevent future pileups.

In a week full of strange Penn State problems, only one question remains: what will Thursday bring?
