Red Land Little League Team Visits Football Practice, Kicks Field Goals

The Red Land Little League team has been on top of the world lately. The Pennsylvania-based, United States Championship-bound squad stopped by a Penn State football practice to much elation from both teams. Red Land, consisting of 11 to 13-year-olds, got to meet and hang out with some of the premier amateur athletes in the world.

“I think my favorite part has to be the field goal (Braden Kolmansberger) kicked at the end,” Red Land manager Tim Peifer told Penn Live. “Coach Franklin was going to make the (Lions’) kids do ‘up-downs’ if he missed it. If he made it, Coach Franklin did 30 pushups. And our kid made the 30-yard field goal.”

Potential kicker Joey Julius is right by Kolmansberger’s before the kick and is the first one grabbing him after, but you have to think he’s worried about locking up the starting spot — that was one of those kicks that was a sure thing as soon as it left his foot. James Franklin, who was presented with a Red Land jersey at the end of practice, made good on his deal.

A Penn State football practice was a good way to unwind before Red Land’s matchup with Pearland, Texas — whom Red Land beat 3-0 on Wednesday. The game will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Williamsport and serves as the U.S. Championship, with the winner moving on to the International Championship on Sunday. ABC and WatchESPN will air the game, so tune in this afternoon to cheer on the Pennsylvanian team.
