No. 11 Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Indiana 4-0

Penn State women’s soccer looked stronger than ever on the offensive front on Sunday afternoon as it dominated Indiana in a 4-0 shut out. The decisive win advanced the Nittany Lions to 10-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in Big Ten play.

How It Happened

Penn State commanded this game from the start, with a goal off of a rebound from Raquel “Rocky” Rodriguez six minutes into regulation. Persistence and maintaining possession were key to this win, as the assertive Lions saw many chances throughout the first half. After Emily Ogle, Rodriguez, and Haleigh Echard had close calls, Mallory Weber fired one from ten yards out at 41 minutes into the match.

Immediately after halftime, Penn State came out swinging yet again. At 46 minutes, Megan Schafer tallied her seventh goal of the season on a set piece from Ogle to extend Penn State’s lead to 3-0. The Nittany Lions ended the game as strong as they started it, with Elizabeth Ball’s first goal of the season coming in hot with two minutes left in regulation.

Penn State barely let Indiana have a chance throughout the entire game, leading the Hoosiers 35 to 2 in shots. The 4-0 shutout featured talent from every Penn State player and reinforced the importance that teamwork has had in the 10-2-2 team’s successes.

Player Of The Game

Once again, unrelenting powerhouse Rocky Rodriguez proved invaluable to the Nittany Lions. Her consistent effort, endurance, and resiliency ensured that this wouldn’t just be a regular win, but the Hoosiers would rarely see their own offensive end at all.
