Red Land Little League To Participate In Saturday’s THON Game Festivities
The 2015 Little League World Series U.S. Champions (and Pennsylvania native) Red Land Little League will be recognized by the university before and during Saturday’s noon matchup against Illinois at Beaver Stadium, per a Penn State athletics release.
The team will greet the Nittany Lions at 9:30 a.m. as they enter Beaver Stadium outside the All-Sports Museum. It will also participate in Saturday’s THON Day festivities by meeting with student leaders involved in THON. Red Land players and coaches will then be honored during the first half of the game on the field.
Red Land Little League, from Lewisberry, PA, earned the United States title after a 20-0 march through the tournament. It defeated a Pearland, Texas team in the National Championship, before ultimately falling to Japan 18-11 in the World Series Championship game. Off the field, Red Land players and coaches have become faces of goodwill throughout the region, participating in numerous charitable endeavors.
The team’s official charity is the Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, a fitting choice for the THON Day events. In addition to THON Day, Saturday’s contest against Illinois will be a purple out to celebrate the life of Kayla Nakonechni. Fans are encouraged to wear purple or grey.
