After playing games with narrow margins of victory such as the six-point win against Army and the nail-biting one-point victory against Maryland last week, it was a refreshing change of pace to watch Penn State shut out Illinois 39-0 this past weekend. Along with Penn State’s first B1G shutout since defeating Minnesota 20-0 in 2009, this weekend’s Halloween matchup also provided us with some great photos.

Warm-ups for the noon kickoff started around 10 a.m. on a cool, sunny Halloween morning.

The gates to Beaver Stadium opened at 10:30, and among the first to enter the stadium were students clad in purple in honor of Kayla Nakonechni.

The Nittany Lions started off strong in the first quarter with a pair of passing touchdowns — the first to Chris Godwin, and the second to Geno Lewis.

After the first quarter, the Nittany Lion and Lionettes showed off their moves with a Thriller-themed dance routine.

The defenses of both teams shined in the second quarter, with the quarter starting off with a forced fumble by Illinois’ Clayton Fejedelem, followed by five straight drives that resulted in punts.

The scoreless streak in the second quarter came to an end when Tyler Davis drilled a 42-yard field goal with 4:16 left in the half.

The third quarter began with arguably one of the most exciting plays of the seasons where Christian Hackenberg caught a 14-yard pass from Nick Scott for a touchdown. Tyler Davis made the extra point, and the Nittany Lions were up 22-0.

The Nittany Lions continued their dominance over the Illini into the fourth quarter with a yet another incredible Saquon Barkley hurdle into the south endzone.

…during which he also lost his shoe.

Penn State finally capped off its 39-0 shutout of Illinois with a 20-yard touchdown run by sophomore Mark Allen.

The team was all smiles after it crushed Big Ten foe Illinois, and it hopes to do the same as it travels to face Northwestern this upcoming Saturday.
