Jim Haslett Leaves Consultant Position To Become Bengals’ LB Coach

Joining the long list of subtractions from the Penn State football program is Jim Haslett. Haslett signed on as a consultant last June, and he served in that role for the 2015 season before accepting a job as the Cincinnati Bengals’ linebackers coach.

Before his time at Penn State, Haslett spent five seasons in the NFL as Washington’s defensive coordinator. In a statement released by the Bengals, head coach Marvin Lewis said, “Jim is just a very outstanding and thorough football coach. He has a tremendous background, including both as a head coach and a coordinator. It’s a wealth of expertise and ideas that he’s going to bring to a position group that has to be successful for us to succeed as a team.”

After keeping the coaching staff intact from 2014 to 2015, the 2016 season will see the following changes. John Donovan was fired, Bob Shoop left for Tennessee, Herb Hand left for Auburn, and Jim Haslett is heading back to the NFL. In their steads, Joe Moorhead and Matt Limegrover were hired and Brent Pry was promoted. Pry’s promotion potentially leaves an opening for a linebackers coach, and though it’s unclear if Haslett was offered the job, he ultimately decided Cincinnati is the next step for his career.

Thanks for your time here and good luck, Coach.
