Penn Stater And DKE Brother Andrew Garwood Passes Away

Penn State lost a member of its family this week. Andrew Garwood, a student and member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, passed away on January 12 following a long battle with brain cancer.

Garwood was an active member in his fraternity, serving as chapter president in 2014. In addition to his leadership, Garwood was heavily involved with DKE’s THON efforts. He represented his fraternity on the BJC floor last year, when he danced in THON 2015. Garwood was fighting brain cancer at the time, but still danced for the entire 46 hours.

During his 16-month battle with cancer, DKE remained supportive to their brother. The fraternity held a fundraiser in November to help cover Garwood’s medical and travel expenses. Garwood’s fraternity members deeply admired their former president. In November, DKE brother Shane Varughese called Garwood “one of the most caring and friendly people we know.”

Our deepest condolences are with Garwood’s friends and family during this difficult time.
