Fly like a cannonball falling to the earth on February 5 when indie rock band Cold War Kids comes to Alumni Hall for SPA LateNight.

Cold War Kids is a five-piece band from Long Beach, California that formed in 2004, but recently broke through with its most popular song to date, “First.” It’s the only song of theirs to top the U.S. Alternative charts, though 10 singles have charted. The group has released five full-length albums, starting with 2006’s “Robbers & Cowards” and ending with 2014’s “Hold My Home.”

SPA brought in Bill Nye, Iron & Wine, CollegeHumor, Epic Rap Battles of History, and more last semester. This one is off to a hot start with a band that has a large college-age fanbase.

“Reminiscent of Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon, or a toned down AWOLNATION, Cold War Kids bring a unique bluesy feel to the indie genre that you won’t want to miss,” SPA said in a release.

SPA recently hosted its first-ever SPA Day on Friday, January 29 as Stephen Chbosky, Waverunners, and Logic all performed for an energetic HUB.

The show is free for all students with a valid Penn State ID. It starts at 10 p.m. on February 5. Here’s the Cold War Kids hit, “First.”
