Allen Robinson’s meteoric rise over the last year has been nothing short of special and when you finish your second professional year with 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns, people will start to take notice. Not just anyone, either — we’re talking about the game’s most respected athletes.

During Super Bowl week, Robinson’s name came up during media roundtable sessions. Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin was asked about Jacksonville’s trio of young offensive weapons, a group led by Robinson. It’s safe to assume his response will serve as a motivator for Robinson, as it’s not every day you’re lauded by one of the best to ever play the position.

“That’s my man, A.R.,” Irvin said to Jacksonville.com. “He’s going to be a beast for a long time. He’s a solid guy. Jon Gruden always tells me, ‘Michael, I’m telling you, A.R. reminds me most of you.’ I see that, too. He’s a lot like me and I had to get ‘me’ on my team.”

By team, Irvin’s referring to the Pro Bowl team he drafted and coached last month in Hawaii. There, Irvin was able to witness Robinson’s potential firsthand, but their experience at the Pro Bowl wasn’t the first time the two stars had crossed paths.

“We had him on our show coming out for the draft and had him working out,” Irvin said. “The thing he said was, ‘I’m going to show everybody.’ He wasn’t drafted in the first round but said he would change the game for his team, and that’s what he’s done. I text him about what it takes to be great, and he soaks it up with a sponge and it shows on the field.”

Robinson’s breakout sophomore campaign featured a player already acclimated to the speed of the professional game, and with two years under his belt working with quarterback Blake Bortles, year three figures to be special — an enticing notion considering his accomplishments in 2015.
