Anthony Zettel Raises $6,159 For Uplifting Athletes At NFL Combine

Like all players in attendance during the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Anthony Zettel was thinking big picture. A good performance during field drills could mean a boost in draft stock, which oftentimes leads to hundreds of thousands — if not millions — in salary with a higher draft selection. But unlike most players, Zettel wasn’t the only beneficiary of a stellar showing.

Zettel urged fans earlier this month to pledge donations for each repetition he did at the Combine, which he would donate toward Uplifting Athletes. His initiative was reminiscent of current Steelers tight end Jesse James, who launched a similar campaign during the 2015 Scouting Combine. James raised $5,460 for Uplifting Athletes after his impressive combine performance.

At the time of the article (which was posted on Feb. 23), Zettel only managed to generate roughly $17 per donation, short of his $180 goal. What a difference a week can make.

Zettel had one of the Combine’s more complete overall performances, but after pounding out 28 repetitions on the bench press, he was able to raise $6,159 for Uplifting Athletes — that’s $219.96 per rep. Furthermore, his blazing fast 40 yard dash time of 4.83 seconds should be low enough to vault him up a number of teams’ draft boards, which should result in a much higher selection come draft day.

At 277 pounds, those 28 bench press reps should also do wonders for his improving draft stock, meaning everybody emerged this weekend a winner.
