Saquon Barkley Breaks Team Weight Lifting Record

Penn State fans were introduced to the talent of the high-flying spectacle Saquon Barkley against Buffalo and were reminded of it again and again with each touch throughout his first season. It turns out, Saquon pulls out the same sort of highlights in the weight room.

The team held its annual offseason weight lifting “max out” session today, and the star running back showed why he is one of the most physically-gifted players in all of college football.

Barkley broke the all-time Penn State record for the power clean at a jaw-dropping 390 pounds. Barkley checks in at 5’11”, 222 pounds. Consider, the previous record holder, defensive tackle Anthony Zettel, has a full 5 inches and more than 60 pounds on the new owner. Behold:

Barkley also ran the fastest 40 on the team. Not bad for No. 26, who had 8 touchdowns and 1,237 all-purpose yards last season along with plenty of broken records as a true freshman. Not to be lost in this discussion is his THON 2016 Pep Rally performance, which has received rave reviews.

With the nation’s top-ranked back in the 2016 recruiting class — five-star Pittsburgh product Miles Sanders — arriving this summer and Bishop McDevitt’s all-time leading rusher Andre Robinson coming off a redshirt, the Nittany Lions will immediately boast one of the most dangerous backfields in the country.
