SPA Announces MSMR, Manchester Orchestra, And Tyler Oakley Will Come To The HUB

Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA) announced bands MSMR and Manchester Orchestra, as well as internet celebrity Tyler Oakley, will come to the HUB later this month. MSMR and Manchester Orchestra will come to Alumni Hall on March 19 and March 23 respectively, and Tyler Oakely will come to Heritage Hall on March 18.

MSMR, an alternative rock duo, broke into the spotlight in 2013, with the songs Hurricane and Bones from the group’s debut album “Secondhand Rapture.” The two most recently put out “How Does It Feel,” their second full length album, in 2015. The stop in Happy Valley comes in the middle of a world tour that will take the band across the United States, and to Canada and Australia.

Manchester Orchestra falls into the similar genre of indie rock. Composed of five members, the band formed in 2004 and has put out five albums. Though never reaching full-fledged stardom, the band has played numerous prominent venues, including making the rounds playing late night TV shows.

Tyler Oakley, the only non-musician of the bunch, runs a popular YouTube channel and podcast, and is considered an “internet celebrity.” Oakley strongly advocates for LGBTQ issues on his pages, with an audience of more than 8 million subscribers on YouTube, and more than  554 million views on his videos.

About the Author

Mike Reisman

is a senior Supply Chain Management major with an Economics minor (Read: Business Douche) from South Jersey. He has an intense fear of graduating so please don't bring it up. He writes about stupid things nobody cares about, and student life if the site is low on content that is clearly supposed be funny but is really very unfunny. He is lovingly (?) known around the staff as Baby Mike which may or may not be because he has a child (hint: it’s not). He’s also a second generation Penn Stater who has been wearing Penn State sweatshirts since before he was two, a habit he hasn’t grown out of.
