Penn State’s Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes is currently under construction, but a new virtual tour allows Penn Staters to preview what’s to come.

Hoffman Leakey Architects designed the building and PJ Dick Construction created the animated virtual tour, in which students and alumni can visualize what the finished product will look like come the 2016 fall semester. You can check out the virtual tour here. The tour is a four-and-a-half minute video rendering that takes viewers throughout the facility and its many study rooms and spaces, lobbies, and offices.

The $7.2 million project, housed in the Greenberg Indoor Sports Complex, will create one, centralized 32,000-square feet resource facility for the more than 800 student-athletes at Penn State. The project is part of the Bridge to the Future Fund, which allows fans and alumni to donate to the renovations. Athletic Director Sandy Barbour was one of the first to make a large donation to the fund in 2015, worth $100,000.

The Morgan Academic Center will consist of staff offices for the student-athlete development and welfare unit, academic counselors, learning specialists, and a sports psychologist as well as 15 collaborative learning rooms, classroom space, study rooms, reading rooms, two conference rooms, a lounge, and displays of student-athlete academic recognition through the years.

The first-floor reading and study area is constructed as an open-floor plan with high ceilings reaching two stories on the McKean Road side of the building. The former ice surface in the Greenberg building will become the ground floor.

Unfortunately, this building will be built strictly for student-athletes on varsity teams. The mission of the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes is to provide academic support services, counseling, first-year enrichment programs, individualized learning support, career development, and sports psychology for Penn State’s student-athletes.

The Morgan Academic Support Center certainly looks like a nice place to learn, and hopefully it will help Penn State student-athletes continue the tradition of Success with Honor and improve on their already impressive, record-high 516 students boasting a 3.0 or better GPA during the fall 2015 semester.
