American Cancer Society Workshop To Promote Dialogue And Wellness

Current cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers can RSVP today to an American Cancer Society workshop at PYP Studio set for April 16.

The free workshop features yoga, nutrition pointers, and general dialogue between people forced to deal with this terrible disease. Danielle Michael, a registered dietitian with the Mount Nittany Hospital Nutrition and Culinary Services, will speak and free lunch is included in the 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. day.

“I became inspired to create a health and wellness event for people battling cancer after witnessing the strength and courage of a woman who was being fitted for a wig because she was losing her hair from chemotherapy. The American Cancer Society offers wigs to cancer patients free of charge. Seeing just this little part of her struggle made me wonder if there were any events offered that would bring cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers together and all participating in a positive activity,” event creator Jenna Karnofsky said.

Karnofsky urges participants to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, but yoga mats will be supplied to those who don’t own them. She said participants will have the chance to ask questions about nutrition and yoga with the instructor, and they can talk to each other to promote dialogue within the community.

“My biggest hope is that participants will come away from this event feeling a little bit better, even if just for a short time,” Karnofsky said.

To RSVP, contact Jenna.Karnofsky@cancer.org or call 814-234-1023 by April 1 as soon as possible.
