Senate Hopeful Fetterman To Visit Penn State, Drink At Liberty

If you’re looking for a conversation more meaningful than typical college bar talk, you’re in luck this weekend. U.S. Senate Candidate John Fetterman will visit Penn State to share drinks with voters at the Liberty Craft House on College Ave. from 9-11 p.m. on Saturday.

Sharing beers with potential constituents is a unique way to campaign — however, it’s fitting because Fetterman is certainly a unique candidate. This trip will be his second to State College in recent times — he also shared drinks with students at the Skeller.

Fetterman currently serves as the Mayor of Braddock and is one of three candidates vying to unseat Pat Toomey this fall. If you haven’t read up on Fetterman yet, the Philadelphia Magazine and the New York Times published two great profiles.

Fetterman doesn’t look like the typical U.S. Senate Candidate — with the build of a security guard and numerous tattoos (he has the dates of Braddock’s five murders tattooed on one arm, and its zip code on the other), he is exactly the type of candidate who would invite college students out for drinks to talk about the issues.

However, don’t judge a book by its cover: Fetterman is a Harvard graduate who managed to grab the attention of politicians across the country with his unconventional approach to politics. Fetterman is an underdog who has to fight for name recognition beside bigger names like Katie McGinty and Joe Sestak for the Senate position in 2016.

Even if you don’t know who Fetterman is, you may recognize one of the people working on his campaign — former Penn State Linebacker Ben Kline. Also known for his sometimes eccentric behavior, the addition of Kline to Fetterman’s campaign adds to his unconventional approach to politics and gives Penn Staters a connection to his campaign.

If you’re looking for some good company and engaging conversation, stop by the Liberty Craft House from 9-11 p.m. on Saturday to talk to Fetterman. You could be talking to a future member of the U.S. Senate.
