The hype surrounding Penn State basketball’s 2016 recruiting class has been growing since signing day, but it might’ve reached its peak with Tuesday’s news. Incoming four-star Penn State point guard Tony Carr added another sterling honor to his already-loaded resume: USA Today PA Player of the Year.

Carr, who hails from the hoops hotbed that is Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, recently garnered the same title from the Pennsylvania Sports Writers for the AAAA level after leading the Cahillites to back-to-back PIAA State Championships. Additionally, Roman head coach Chris McNesby brought home Coach of the Year. Carr’s teammates — Lamar Stevens, who was named to the second team, and Nazeer Bostick — have also signed on to play their college ball for the Nittany Lions this coming season.

Carr was also, obviously, a Keystone State first-team selection by USA Today, joining Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year and five-star prospect Lonnie Walker, seven-foot junior center Mohamed Bamba, Philly guard Quade Green out of Neumann-Goretti, and four-star Virginia commit De’Andre Hunter.
