Hackenberg Signs $4.66 Million Contract With New York Jets

New York Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg, the 51st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, signed a $4.66 million four-year rookie contract on Thursday, officially beginning his tenure in the city that never sleeps. It also includes a $1.6 million signing bonus and a $847,000 cap charge for the 2016 season.

Hackenberg is the third quarterback for the Jets to be under contract, after Geno Smith (WVU) and Bryce Petty (Baylor). If Ryan Fitzpatrick agrees to terms, it will be four. NFL.com reports Hackenberg to be the most controversial draft pick of the year.

The 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year leaves Penn State as the only 8,000 yard-passer in program history, New Era Pinstripe Bowl MVP in 2015, and countless other accolades. He’ll be trading in his signature 14 for a green number five.

Here’s a look at the moment he became a Jet:

Congratulations, Christian. The Jets kick off its first preseason game Thursday, August 11 in Metlife Stadium.
