Three-Star Safety Brelin Faison-Walden Commits To Penn State

A nearly three-month long recruiting drought ended today, as James Franklin’s Nittany Lions picked up a key commitment from three-star 2017 safety Brelin Faison-Walden.

Faison-Walden originally planned to hold off on announcing his college decision until later this summer, but a successful visit this past weekend for Penn State’s annual “Lasch Bash” recruiting barbecue was enough to seal the deal.

Faison-Walden selected Penn State over a host of national offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Oregon, and others. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Greensboro, N.C., native is considered the 12th-best prospect from his home state and the country’s 33rd-overall safety, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Faison-Walden is the first safety commit for the Nittany Lions this cycle, joining three-star corner D.J. Brown as the lone defensive backs pledged to play their college ball in Beaver Stadium. With Faison-Walden in the fold, Penn State’s 2017 recruiting class is up to nine members.

After failing to sign a safety in 2016, Faison-Walden will likely have a great opportunity to make a splash early in his career. However, he does have the frame to play the hybrid safety/linebacker “STAR” role in Brent Pry’s defense or even grow into a full-time outside linebacker.

You can check out Faison-Walden’s Hudl highlight reel right here.
