Here’s Why The Fall Involvement Fair Was Moved To The HUB Lawn

With sylly week in full swing today, passing by the involvement fair on your way to classes is nearly inevitable. Walking through the HUB’s Pollock Road entrance can be a nightmare as you attempt to fight through the zombie nation of students who stayed up way too late last night but still need to get involved with something to pad their resumes. This year, the involvement fair will be held outdoors on the HUB lawn instead, on Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the HUB lawn as much as the next person, but I’d prefer not to get a sunburn while I’m checking out the latest happenings from the Nittany Grotto Caving Club. And what about the rain dates? It seems highly inconvenient to move the fair to a rain date, but what if it sprinkles on every organization’s prized tri-fold poster? So why make the change this year?

“We decided that the involvement fair generally works better outside because of the space issues we’ve had in Alumni Hall,” said Rachel Galloway, Program Coordinator for Student Organizations. “Historically, the involvement fair would be spread over three to four days, with one day specific for fraternity and sorority life, one for club sports, etc. Now that the HUB lawn space is available, we figured ‘why not use it?’. By having the fair outside, we are able to host all of the organizations in one day, which is better because our first day has always been the best attended.”

There you have it, folks. Break out your sunscreen before it’s too late and get outside to get involved. At least the mild stench of body odor won’t be contained in one crowded room.
