Marcus Allen Named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player Of The Week

Junior safety Marcus Allen picked up Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday for his career-high 22-tackle performance in a 29-26 overtime win over Minnesota.

Allen was joined by Northwestern senior defensive lineman Ifeadi Odenigbo, who racked up five tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble in the Wildcats’ 38-31 victory on the road at Iowa.

Allen said after Saturday’s win that he had never posted that many tackles in a game during any point of his standout football career, making the feat all the more special for the Upper Marlboro, Md., native. He currently leads the Penn State defense with 50 total tackles (three for loss), while adding two pass breakups, two passes defended, and a forced fumble/recovery in the Kent State game. Fellow safety Malik Golden, who didn’t play against the Golden Gophers, is second on the team with 29 tackles.
