Junior outside hitter Simone Lee added another big honor to her resume Monday, as she was named espnW’s National Player of the Week following her career-high 30 kills in an upset of then-No. 1 Minnesota last Wednesday.

On the heels of being crowned the Big Ten’s Player of the Week, Lee joins former libero Dominique Gonzalez (2011-14) as the lone Penn State women’s volleyball standouts to be nationally recognized by espnW. Gonzalez accomplished the feat on Oct. 1, 2014 thanks to a 47-dig week that helped the Nittany Lions knock off Wisconsin and Minnesota on the road. They would go on to win their NCAA record seventh National Championship that season.

Lee has guided No. 10 Penn State back from a tough 2-3 start to the season and now the team sits in second place in the Big Ten (14-3) behind the top-ranked Badgers as the only programs that remain undefeated (6-0) in conference play. The Menomonee Falls, Wis., native is the first Nittany Lion to eclipse the 30-kill mark in the 25-point rally scoring era, but Nicole Fawcett did post 31 in 2007 against Cal Poly.
