Penn State Economics Association To Host Annual ‘Great Debate’ Thursday

The Penn State Economics Association will host its annual Great Debate at 7 p.m. Thursday in Eisenhower Auditorium with the help of Penn State Speech and Debate Society and the University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC).

The annual event encourages open discussion of a common issue within the economics community. Each year, a different question is posed as the subject of the debate.

This year, participants will debate: “Is liberalizing international trade essential to achieving prosperity?”

Economics professors Mark McLeod and Colin Knapp will lead two teams pitted against one another to debate the benefits and drawbacks of international trade.

The Economics Association hopes to foster students’ interested in economics through education, outreach, and social growth. Students of all majors are encouraged to attend and learn more about this global economics issue. Doors for the event will open at 6:30 p.m.
