Overheard On Twitter: Micah Parsons’ Decommitment

As with all controversial news, the internet was an exciting place of opposing opinions on Sunday night.

When Micah Parsons — the No. 8 player in the country for 2018 — hit send at 10:30 p.m. and announced that he was decommitting from Penn State’s highly touted and former No. 2 recruiting class, he initiated an incessant buzz of takes that consumed college football fans’ timelines around the country. A handful of fellow recruits and current Penn State players as well as scores of frustrated fans took to Twitter to share their takes.

Fellow Recruits

The cornerback commit from Texas was quick to tweet out his thoughts two minutes after Parsons’ decision and more or less spoke on behalf his recruiting class as Jesse Luketa, Zack Kuntz, and Pat Freiermuth, among others, all retweeted him shortly after.

Shortly after his tweet, however, Humphries clarified what he was trying to say, although the timing seems to be a little questionable. Just another day in the lovely world of college recruiting…

Humphries isn’t the first 2018 commit to express dismay with Parsons. In March, when the defensive end named his dog Brutus and ignited a dumpster fire of speculation, running back Ricky Slade had a similar message of disapproval. After being silent on Sunday night, Slade, who many have already regarded as an emerging leader for the 2018 team class, took a different stance on Monday morning than his earlier tweet .

Like Humphries’ initial tweet, Luketa also voiced a family-focused message.

Current Players

Both early enrollee Lamont Wade and incoming freshman Fred Hansard had a lot to say on Sunday night with each sending his own series of tweets. Interestingly, out of everyone who had something to say, the two players who were the most understanding and sympathetic with Parsons were the ones who had most recently completed the recruiting process.

Hansard, who was committed to Florida until this past November, likely knows better than anyone what goes into a decision like this.

While the younger players seemed to be more understanding, the upperclassmen, who are far removed from the drama of the recruiting world, were on a different page.

We’re all for players being proud of their program and school but asserting that Penn State is the best place in Centre County may be a little modest.

This is almost a carbon copy of one of the last lines that Anakin Skywalker said before being upset in an epic lightsaber battle with Obi Wan Kenobi, burning in the lava at Mustafar, and fully turning to the Dark Side.

A piece of advice for any Penn State fan when an Ohio State fan says anything, and literally anything: Marcus Allen is always the answer and solves every problem that has ever existed.

Unsurprisingly, the guy whose Twitter handle is about Nebraska winning the Big Ten has jokes.

So does this mean that he didn’t decommit or that he doesn’t even play football?
