Penn State Admits Third Highest Number Of Waitlist Applicants In The Nation

Penn State admits the third highest number of wait-list applicants in the country, according to a new study by U.S. News and World Report.

Of the 91 schools that submitted data to U.S. News and World Report in a survey, the average proportion of students admitted from the waitlist for fall 2015 was 20 percent. The top 10 schools who reported the highest number of acceptances averaged 82 percent.

For the fall 2015 semester, 1,473 Penn State applicants accepted a spot on the waitlist. 98.1 percent of them, or 1,445 students, were later admitted.

Penn State fell behind Clemson, who accepted 99.1 percent of their waitlisted applicants for the fall 2015 semester, and Ohio State, who accepted all 304 of its waitlisted applicants. Altogether, Penn State accepted more waitlisted students than Marquette, Arkansas, UC Davis, UC Riverside, Maryland, Saint Louis University, and the University of San Diego.

U.S. News and World Report did not include any schools that weren’t in its annual rankings in the report.
