An off-cycle Board of Trustees meeting has been set for June 2. Penn State administrators will discuss “a comprehensive set of recommendations to ensure significant change” to Greek Life following the death of Tim Piazza.

“We are committed to honoring the Piazza family’s desire to have meaningful student safety improvements come out of this tragedy,” the university said in a statement. In addition to the self-proclaimed “aggressive actions” already taken by the university President Eric Barron stated the university is “considering a number of options that will depart drastically from measures commonly employed at institutions nationwide.”

“The safety of our students and campus community is of paramount importance, and we are resolved to take decisive action,” President Barron stated. “There are no easy solutions, but we will leave no stone unturned as we search for the most effective ways to achieve change.”

President Barron said that underage and binge drinking, sexual misconduct, and hazing are issues faced by schools across the country, and the university is “committed to taking the steps necessary to promote the safety and well-being of our students.”

Beta Theta Pi and 18 members of the now permanently banned Penn State chapter are being prosecuted following the death of Tim Piazza in February.
