Actor Al Pacino’s legendary film career includes iconic characters like Michael Corleone in The Godfather and Tony Montana in Scarface. Now, Joe Paterno can be added to the list.

After hiccups in the film’s early stages, HBO decided to green light a project depicting the Sandusky Scandal at Penn State with Pacino playing the legendary Paterno in the lead role. The film will be directed by Barry Levinson, according to Variety.com. Levinson’s career highlights include The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam, and Rain Man.

As it currently stands, Pacino is the only actor currently cast for the film, and the project itself has no release date in sight.

The project’s backbone includes a laundry list of the industry’s notable figures. Tom Fontana will serve as a writer and executive producer, along with Deborah Cahn and David McKenna.

Pacino and Brian De Palma — the visionary behind Scarface — were set to partner in a 2014 Paterno biopic dubbed Happy Valley, but budget problems doomed the project before filming began.

Rumors swirled about the project resurfacing, but nothing concrete could be found on the movie’s status. It’s assumed once the movie casts the remaining roles, a release date will be revealed to the public.
