James Franklin and company just lost the top-rated commit in their 2018 recruiting class. Justin Fields took to Twitter to announce his decision to decommit from Penn State on Tuesday night. Fields is the No. 1 ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country according to 247 Sports.

Fields is the second five-star recruit from the class of 2018 to decommit from the Nittany Lions, joining Harrisburg native Micah Parsons. Fields’ decommitment drops the Nittany Lions from the No. 2 to the No. 5 recruiting class for the class of 2018, according to 247 Sports.

The Georgia native is now projected to commit to the Florida Gators. In fact, a recent Twitter feud between Florida commit Iverson Clement and five-star Penn State commit Ricky Slade foreshadowed some potential shakiness in Fields’ commitment.

Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, Iverson Clement may have had some reason for his confidence. A few Penn State commits reacted quickly to the news of Fields’ decision.
