Penn State Running Back Andre Robinson Set To Transfer

Andre Robinson, a redshirt sophomore running back from Mechanicsburg, PA, will be leaving the team via transfer according to John McGonigal of the Centre Daily Times. His destination is yet unknown.

Robinson put up strong numbers in his 2016 season as a backup to Saquon Barkley, rushing for 141 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 29 carries. He seemed poised for another strong season this year, but saw just 9 attempts on the ground for one touchdown.

Miles Sanders leaped Robinson in the depth chart in the true sophomore’s second season, solidifying a position as the clear No. 2 back behind Barkley. His 25 attempts on the ground led to an astounding 7-yard average carry for 176 yards and a score. Sanders showed that the future of the Penn State backfield is in the capable hands of the nation’s top-ranked running back out of high school.

As Mark Allen and four other running backs will also be vying for snaps, and with highly-touted Ricky Slade coming aboard next season, it’s not too surprising that Robinson is looking for a less-crowded backfield to operate in.

Saquon Barkley showed his appreciation and support for Robinson on Twitter Tuesday night:

Change has come to the Penn State program, especially following the departures of both Joe Moorhead and Charles Huff.
