Ohio State Can’t Recruit Micah Parsons Anymore And It’s All College GameDay’s Fault

Update 11:33 a.m. Apparently there is more to the story. 247 Sports’ Alex Gleitman stated earlier on Twitter that the initial report by The Lantern is not 100% accurate.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Alright, I got that out of my system. Anyway, you read that headline correctly. Ohio State self reported violations stemming from improper contact with media members that occurred during five-start defensive end Micah Parsons’ official visit to Columbus — a date that coincided with College GameDay’s trip to The Horseshoe. The information was obtained by The Lantern via a public records request. Because of the improper contact, Ohio State will not recruit Parsons anymore.

The crux of the issue here during Parsons’ visit was photo opportunities the defensive end had with members of the media. Here’s what the report said:

“As such, a violation of NCAA Bylaws 13.10.1 and 13.10.2.4 occurred, as members of the media may not be present during an institution’s recruiting contact with a prospect and a prospect may not participate in team activities that would make the public or media aware of the prospect’s visit to the institution.”

Among the high-profile media members Parsons conversed with and took photos with includes Rece Davis and Lee Corso along with former Ohio State quarterback and current College GameDay member Kirk Herbstreit. Here’s one of the incriminating photos:

According to the records, the whole reason Parsons went up to the set was because his parents had never seen it before and wanted to check it out. Football recruiting assistant Ed Terwilliger then allowed Parsons and co. to walk up to the set and take said incriminating photos. Terwilliger was then suspended for one game, while Ohio State mandated that everybody affiliated with athletics stayed as far away as possible from the GameDay set for the rest of the year.

As a result of these violations, Ohio State cannot recruit Parsons further. His recruitment has poetically come full-circle after he decommitted from Penn State earlier this year. Once seen as a potential favorite to land with the Buckeyes, it seems Parsons will wind up in Happy Valley after all.

So, never tweet at croots, but if you’re in the media (especially if you played major college football in the Big Ten), don’t take pictures with them either.
