Saquon Barkley Declares For The NFL Draft

After months of speculation, Penn State star Saquon Barkley officially declared for the NFL draft Sunday evening via a heartfelt note on his Instagram account.

“I would like to start off by saying thank you so much for all of the memories that you have helped create over the last three years, whether it be on the football field, in school or in the community. I am forever grateful to you for making my time here so enjoyable,” Barkley wrote to Penn State fans.

“With that being said, God has blessed me with the opportunity to pursue the dream I have had since I was a little kid of playing in the NFL. After lots of thought, prayer, and conversation with those closest to me, I have decided to forgo my senior season and enter the NFL draft,” he continued.

“I am aware I am coming up short on getting my degree, but I have made a promise to my mom, dad, and coach Franklin that I will continue to pursue my dream of obtaining a Penn State degree.”

The Coplay, Pa., native officially finishes his Penn State career with 3,843 rushing yards, 1,195 receiving yards, and a total of 54 touchdowns following a fantastic showing in the team’s 35-28 win over Washington in Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl.

During his time as a Nittany Lion, Barkley could always be counted on to return kicks for scores, use his speed in both the running and passing game, and flail his arms in celebration.

Barkley’s lasting legacy will stretch far beyond his play on the field in his three seasons in State College. During his growth from a blue-chip prospect to one of the best tailbacks in the nation, Barkley’s humility and genuine kindness were very endearing to Penn Staters the world over.

He’s expected to be a top 10 pick in April’s NFL draft, which will be held April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
