Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Alumnus Greg Gurenlian To Represent United States At World Championships

Former Penn State lacrosse faceoff specialist Greg Gurenlian will represent the United States national team at the International Lacrosse Men’s World Championships this July in Netanya, Israel.

Gurenlian played for the Nittany Lions from 2003 to 2006 and was drafted by the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse following his senior year. He finished his final season in Happy Valley with nine goals and eight assists, also tallying a 61 percent faceoff win rate that year. He led the team with 198 ground ball pickups, showing his tenacity in loose ball situations.

After an extremely successful ten-year career in MLL that saw him break the league’s all-time faceoff percentage record (73.1 percent, 2015), Gurenlian retired from pro lacrosse to focus on establishing himself as a regular on the United States national team.

“I retired from the MLL so that I could give Team USA my absolute focus,” he said in a press release. “I’ll train harder than ever before and be ready to compete as hard as humanly possible. I want to do my part in helping this group of outstanding people reach our ultimate goal.”
