Saquon Barkley Plans To Fully Participate In NFL Combine

Saquon Barkley said he will participate in each of the running back events at the upcoming NFL combine, which gets underway Feb. 27 in Indianapolis.

In an interview with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Barkley said of the combine: “It’s not a competitive event but it really is if you think about it. I just want to do the best I possibly can to not only challenge myself but challenge the other backs in there, too.

“I’m not just going to bash anybody that decides not to [participate],” Barkley continued. “Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But me, I think it’s important. It helps you see where you’re at personally and against competitors who are competing for the same spot as you.”

It’s a similar stance to the one he took in terms of playing in the Fiesta Bowl, forgoing the opportunity to sit out in favor of a 175-yard, two-touchdown performance versus the Washington Huskies.

Barkley’s currently training for the combine with Tom Shaw at his performance center inside ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. A projected top five pick, Barkley will soon travel to Lucas Oil Stadium, site of his wheel-route heroics in Penn State’s 2016 Big Ten championship win.

In early January, Barkley signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports for contract negotiation and marketing. Last Friday, he became the first draft-eligible player to ink an endorsement deal with Nike just after his 21st birthday.
